About us

Since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with ‘closing the loops’ as Nature seems to do so effortlessly. That we have figured out how to make something so simple (and yet, as complex!) as a solar panel, and it can sit out there in the sun and make something so useful to us as electricity, still blows me away. The fact that we also have the same potential to build careless islands of plastic in the oceans, blows me away too….

Having always been passionate about renewable energy, I built a small wind turbine for our house in Cape Town around 2010, and this kickstarted a journey of discovery into the field of Sustainability. I spent a year at the Sustainability Institute in Stellenbosch, where I achieved a Post Grad Diploma in Sustainable Development, Renewable Energy focused.

In 2014 we moved to a farm in The Crags, where we started putting theoretical knowledge into practice. The first successful installation was an off-grid solar electricity system in 2015, and this is still going strong, after a couple of upgrades. In 2017 we installed a Biodigester, which takes care of all sewerage on the farm, produces biogas for cooking, and we use the nutrient-rich digestate to irrigate flowers and trees.

After having lived off-grid and getting close to energy independence for some years now, I have developed a passion for designing small-scale, integrated energy systems. Nothing makes me happier than to help others create renewable energy systems that give them independence, confidence in their future, and simultaneously reduce the burden we constantly place on the environment.
